Happy Holidays from PopCult

Happy Holidays from PopCult!

We hope that you are taking a moment to breathe, as we share a few highlights from our  busy 2024.

The headline: This year, we expanded our 12 years of success in podcasting and music to live up to our company name - adding screen projects to our palette.

Here’s what we’ve been up to:

Episodic Documentary - SCENE:

Our biggest milestone this year was developing the pilot for an ongoing series of deep dives into how cities are tipped on their side by a cultural scene in one unique neighborhood. We started in L.A., with SCENE: Silver Lake, and hope to take it to Williamsburg, Shoreditch, East Nashville and many other SCENES. We’re working on announcing a distribution home for the series in 2025. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer here:

A secure link to the full pilot is available.

True to our ethos of doing things differently, we also released a theme song for the series. What’s in the Water was written and performed by L.A. artist Rae Isla and produced by Silver Lake legend Tom Biller. Partners bringing the single to worldwide release include: Planetary Group, Big Hassle Media and Xelon Digital. It's available on all streaming services. Don’t forget to add it to your latest playlist! https://bit.ly/3Ytw2b2

New Podcast Pilots:

We produced pilots for two new podcast franchises this year:

  • Soundtrack Park: This scripted narrative show was commissioned by Sony Music Podcasting based on our 52-episode Disney Hits pod. The pilot takes the listener to a weird, abandoned movie studio for the story of the Ray Parker Jr. song Ghostbusters. Listen to it here: https://on.soundcloud.com/VwiCVsnj5s2zHSTaA

  • The Correction: Hosted by writer Rob Tannenbaum, this show features celebrities setting the record straight on false, fanciful, funny (and sometimes even true) stories from their extraordinary lives. The pilot features unexpected and astonishing tales from Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty (really!) Listen to it here: https://on.soundcloud.com/gwDV1xGCYwPU7Coq9

At the heart of PopCult’s mission are partnerships with rights holders. We've developed stories and franchises around music catalogs from legendary partners including Disney, Metallica, RHINO and Verve Records. This year, we were proud to begin representing Iconoclast, the home of Tony Bennett, David Cassidy and The Band for pods and screen projects.

Looking Ahead:

There’s much more to announce in 2025, and we can’t wait to share it with you. We hope everyone has a restful, joyous holiday break and a happy New Year!
